Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah has said he will only attend the debate if he will be debating with the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza presidential candidates.

Wajackoyah argued that the polls that were used as determinants, had the interests of a few individuals.

"The decision is informed by the fact that the polls used as a determinant to pair the presidential candidates are not factual because they are conducted by the pollsters with interests in some of the political parties participating in the presidential debate," he said.

"We believe there is the time between now and date 26 to conduct credible polls that will show the true picture on the ground."

He added:

"I look forward to attending the debate once my concerns are well addressed and I, I'm matched in the right platform for the debate."

Wajackoyah was to be paired with Agano party presidential candidate Waihiga Mwaure on the first tier.

The second tier was to be Azimio leader Raila Odinga and Kenya Kwanza's William Ruto.

The presidential debate set for July 26,  will be held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and will begin at 5 pm.

The first tier was for candidates who have polled less than 5 per cent in three recent opinion polls face off.

On June 28, Raila confirmed he will attend the debate saying he has no qualms presenting himself for debate.

Hussein Mohamed, in charge of Ruto's communications, confirmed the DP's attendance on Friday.

There were doubts about his attendance after his secretariat said, weeks back, had advised him to keep off the debate in protest of what they termed as "media bias", but there was a change of heart.
