Deputy President William Ruto will attend the presidential debate scheduled for Tuesday, July 26.

There were doubts about his attendance after his secretariat said, weeks back, they had advised him to keep off the debate in protest of what they termed as "media bias".

In a change of heart, however, Hussein Mohamed, in charge of Ruto's communications, confirmed his attendance.

He has also issued conditions to the organisers asking them to make public the time allocated for the candidates to ventilate on their plans for Kenyans.

He took issue with the manner in which the deputy presidential debate was conducted saying despite millions watching, none of the topical issues bedevilling them was asked.

Hussein said the interviewers instead trivialised the debate by discussing personalities and political relationships.

"While we do not object to the questions being asked in the debates, we object to trivialising such engagements to the detriment of Kenyans," he said.

Ruto's digital secretary Dennis Itumbi said the DP has insisted on specific time allocation for an array of issues.

He listed education, economy, corruption, health, education, and digital and creative economies, among others, as some of the areas the wants the moderators to specify timelines.
