How to participate in upcoming Presidential Debate

The moderators will select the questions and shall not share the same with the candidates.

Kenyans will have a chance to participate in the upcoming presidential debate scheduled for next week Tuesday, July 26, 2022. 

The public can send the questions they would like to get answered by the presidential candidates via various formats across different platforms. 

The questions can be sent via text messages to 0796560560 or via short-code 22843. 

Using the same number, questions can be sent on videowith Kenyans advised to keep it under 30 seconds.

Viewers can also visit the 2022 Presidential Debates website - www.debates.co.ke or send an email to [email protected] to submit their questions. 

In a statement, Head of Presidential Debates Secretariat Clifford Machoka said that the questions will be selected by the moderators and that they shall not share the same with the candidates. 

"We reiterate that under the Presidential Debate guidelines, the moderators will select the questions to be asked, and shall not share the same with the candidates, they will not meet with any of the campaign teams or the candidates."

The Presidential debate will be held at the Catholic University for Eastern Africa (CUEA) from 5 pm to 10 pm.

Five renowned journalists have been selected to host the debate.

They are; Smriti Vidyarthi (NTV), Ken Mijungu ( KTN News), Yvonne Okwara (Citizen TV), Eric Latiff (Spice FM & KTN News) and Joe Ageyo (NTV).

"The moderators have been selected based on rigorous criteria that abides by among other things the principles of impartiality, fairness and objectivity, a strong understanding of the Kenyan political landscape and the major issues of elections," the Presidential Debate Secretariat said.

The 4 candidates who will face each other in a two-tier debate include Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya Alliance, Kenya Kwanza's William Ruto, George Wajackoyah of Roots Party and David Mwaure of Agano Party. 

George Wajackoyah will face David Mwaure in the first tier of the debate, while the second tier of the debate will be between Raila Odinga and William Ruto.
