Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has told Deputy President William Ruto to prepare for a bruising battle in the August 9, polls.

Raila expressed confidence that he will win the polls even as he told the DP to prepare for a humiliating defeat.

“This time round we are going to win, he (Ruto) is going around saying Raila is scared of him, can Ruto scare me? Ruto can’t scare Baba,” he said

While leading Azimio campaigns in Taita Taveta County on Tuesday, the presidential hopeful bashed the DP saying he is scared because of his growing popularity.

“I have more followers than Ruto, I have travelled the whole country and Kenyans have already decided to walk with me,” Raila added.

Earlier in the day, DP Ruto also claimed that the Azimio coalition had sensed defeat and had doctored opinion polls in an attempt to confuse voters.

On Sunday, the Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) released an opinion poll which showed Raila was leading the race for the presidency.

As per the results of the poll commissioned between June 25 and 30, 2022, Raila enjoyed a 42 percent lead over Ruto who trails with 39 percent

The poll had +/- 2.34 margin of error.

Ruto had argued that when Kenya Kwanza wins the election, Raila will not accept defeat and will use opinion polls to claim his votes have been stolen.

“Stop disturbing us with doctored opinion polls. Kenyans have already decided who they will vote for because Kenya Kwanza has a better manifesto, policies and campaigns,” he said.

Raila however dismissed Ruto’s claims saying he enjoys the most support countrywide.

According to the poll, no coalition, between Azimio-One Kenya and Kenya Kwanza currently draws two-thirds support from any of the nine zones, which points to why the two teams continue to crisscross the country for campaigns.
