Three people have died in a tragic road accident along Nairobi - Mombasa Highway.
The accident occurred at Sultan Hamud in Makueni County on Sunday night.
Makueni County police commander Joseph Napeiyan said the trio died on the spot.
The incident was reported to Sultan Hamud police station.
"It occurred last night at about 2130 hrs, along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway," a police report seen by the Star read in part.
"The driver of Subaru Forester who was heading towards Nairobi direction tried to overtake and unfortunately collided head-on with an oncoming lorry. As a result, all the three passengers in the Subaru Forester died on the spot," Napeiyan said.
The police boss said the lorry's driver escaped with minor injuries and was rushed to Kilome Nursing Home for treatment.
The bodies were moved to the hospital's mortuary awaiting autopsy.
"The said Subaru Forester caught fire and burnt to ashes, while the lorry was extensively damaged. The cars were towed to Sultan Hamud Police Station," Napeiyan said.
He said police had launched investigations into the incident.
