KCPE 2021: Top candidate with special need scores 417 marks

The overall examination performance has improved compared to 2020.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Monday released the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exam results.

The top student was Bruce Mackenzie Magata of Gilgil Hills Academy who scored 428 marks.

A total of 11,857 students scored 400 marks and above.

While announcing the results, CS Magoha also gave a breakdown of the performance of pupils with special needs.

The CS announced Bethany Migosi from Thorn Groove Academy as the top student in that category with 417 marks.

This is a 3 mark drop from 2020's results.

In the 2020 KCPE exam, the top SNE candidate was Brian Otundo from Set Green Hill Academy with 420 marks.

Candidates with special needs scoring between the 300-399 marks have increased in 2021 compared to 2020.

In 2021 a total of 337 candidates with special needs scored between 300-399 while 318 belonged to that category in 2020.

The number of pupils who sat for their exams under special circumstances including those that were in hospitals was 1,067,  a decrease from 1,255 in 2020.

CS Magoha affirmed that Kenya Sign Language recorded a comparable performance in the two years (2021 and 2020).

The overall examination performance has improved compared to 2020,” CS Magoha said.

The highest scoring mark for the overall candidates is 428 which is a drop from 2020s 433.
