Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya is tipped to replace Turkana's Josephat Nanok as Council of Governors chair.

CoG is expected to elect its officials on Friday during the second day of governors' induction in Diani Reef Hotel, Kwale county.

Jubilee, which has 27 out of 47 governors, plans to replace Nanok who is an Opposition politician.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is vying for the deputy chair position.

Mvurya would be the fourth governor to head the council after former Bomet governor Isaac Rutto, former Meru Governor Peter Munya and Nanok.

The Kwale boss was re-elected on a Jubilee ticket in the August 8 poll after he ditched ODM.

He expressed confidence of winning saying he is experienced as he served for two terms as deputy chair of the council.

Mvurya vowed to unite governors in the 47 counties if elected and to work closely with the government for development.
"I will spearhead development among the governors for the development of our country," Mvurya said.
He is considered to be a favourite of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mvurya intensified campaigns for Uhuru's re-election both in August and October.

Kwale deputy governor Fatuma Achani said he is the right person for the post because of his experience as deputy chair of CoG.

Waiguru said she believes in herself as a leader and she will deliver effectively because she enjoys support from locals.

The induction will be closed on Saturday by Deputy President William Ruto.
