Mike Sonko dispatched an ambulance to Njoro, Nakuru county, to rescue a woman who has been suffering from diabetes for six years.

The Nairobi Senator helped transport Grace Muthoni to Kijabe mission hospital for treatment after a local radio station highlighted her plight on Friday.

Sonko said in a Facebook post

on Saturday

that Muthoni was admitted for several tests.

Muthoni is the wife to James Mburu, who lost his job several months ago because of having to take care of her.

“I was a cook at Ndege Secondary school and she was a tailor and had a shop. We had to close all our businesses so that I could take care of her,” Mburu said in an interview.

My wife is now dumb and cannot handle any household chores. The situation worsened last

October after she had a miscarriage in the fifth month. She then lost her senses."

Mburu said he does all the chores and helps his wife with a daily three-hour therapy session because he loves his wife.

"I have had two harambees and received help from friends but my resources are drained because we have to go to a clinic twice a month," he said.

Sonko, who has helped several members of the public get medical attention, said: "No Kenyan should suffer or lose life because of lack of funds."

He noted that an initiative for helping members of the public -

Mkenya Kwa Mkenya - was launched early this year.

Contributions for Muthoni's medical bill can be made to paybill number 922565, Grace Muthoni Medical Fund.
