Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Western Chapter has urged Attorney General Justin Muturi to execute his work accordingly.

On Friday, the Western Chapter joined the LSK national peaceful protest in condemning the recent attacks on the Judiciary by President William Ruto.

Speaking to the media outside Bungoma Law Courts on Friday, George Murunga, Western region’s LSK chairperson expressed their disregard for how the Judiciary is being attacked by the political class over unconfirmed allegations.

"We join our national office in condemning the President's attacks against the judiciary," Murunga said.

Murunga added that the President should respect the Constitution of Kenya 2010 which he swore to protect when he took the oath of office.

At the same time, the lawyers challenged the political class to refrain from accusing the Judiciary of graft without citing any evidence, saying the third arm of government is an independent agency.

"Its independence must be guarded by Kenyans including the President, political class and all Kenyan," he said.

Murunga, however, stated that frequent verbal attacks may damage the public trust in the judiciary, which is the custodian of the rule of law.

"Ridiculing the judiciary will paralyse service delivery since the judges, magistrates and all workers in the legal system will not fall prey to intimidation from the political class," Murunga said.

Daisy Wakoli, Bungoma county LSK Chapter chairperson urged President Ruto to use the available legal channels to weed out the alleged corrupt judges instead of attacking the whole independent institution.

"The President knows the channels he can use to raise concerns against the judicial officers. He can't do so through blunt attacks in the political arena," Ms Wakoli said.

LSK says it has taken a long time to build the current democratic space, cautioning the President not to allow the milestones to be watered down in his regime.
