Lawyers on Friday gathered outside the Supreme Court chanting "Ruto must go," as they protested against the remarks made by the President regarding the judiciary.

The mood was thick with noise from whistles and trumpets, as the LSK members demanded an apology from Ruto.

Some lawyers were dressed in full regalia paired with purple ribbons to show that their demonstration was peaceful.

Others were in suits with High Court advocate Shadrack Wambui going all out in creativity and dressed in a suit made from sacks.

Several lawyers were holding banners written, "Respect Social Justice", "We march for justice #Nobody is above the law".

The procession began at around 10:40 am at the Supreme Court and then proceeded to the City Hall before stopping outside the Parliament Building.

From there, they went to Harambee Avenue and then to the Office of the President.

They also made a stop at the Kenya Police headquarters Vigilance House, Jogoo House and then circled back to the Supreme Court.

Earlier on, Senior Counsel and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was also spotted in attendance.

He had donned the full regalia accompanied by lawyer Eugene Wamalwa.

The two, however, left shortly after.

Former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni was also in attendance.

The lawyers are also demanding that the authority and independence of the judiciary must be acknowledged and protected.

Early this month President William Ruto accused the judiciary of teaming up with cartels to stall his legacy projects.

"I want to announce here that a few people with vested interests who are beneficiaries of corruption in NHIF are now ganging up with corrupt judicial officers to stall reforms so that fake hospital claims will continue," he said during burial in Nyandarua.

The utterances made on January 2, have elicited reactions from several associations allied with law practitioners.

The utterances created an uproar with members of the public and the legal community calling out President Ruto, saying his utterances amount to attack on the independence of the third arm of government.
