Members of the Law Society of Kenya are currently demonstrating across the country following remarks made by President William Ruto over the Judiciary.

As they danced on the streets of Nairobi with placards, the lawyers maintained that the president should respect the judiciary and its mandate.

Vocal advocate, Ndegwa Njiru, as he was among his colleagues was heard chanting 'mambo ni matatu'

"Mambo ni mangapi?," he said as other lawyers joined in, 'Mambo ni matatu!" they said in unison.

"Mambo ni matatu, heshimu mahakama, heshimu sheria ama uende nyumbani," Ndegwa said as he was joined by his colleagues.

This is loosely translated to: There are three conditions, respect the courts, respect the law, or go home.

Earlier, through his X account, Njiru said the march is for the freedom of judicial independence, and from threats to the judicial officers.

The march is led by LSK President Eric Theuri with Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka also in attendance.

While calling for its members to peaceful protests, Theuri said it was in solidarity with the judiciary.

"We call upon all members to don purple ribbons throughout the coming week and join in the peaceful protests countrywide that will be organised by the society in support of the rule of law and solidarity with the Judiciary," LSK president Eric Theuri said in a statement.

"We must not allow our Constitution to suffer dereliction."

Theuri said that the same Judiciary Ruto is 'attacking' has both nullified a prior presidential election and, at another juncture, upheld his very own election.

"This underscores the sacrosanct role of a robust and independent judiciary in fostering national growth, stability, and economic prosperity," he said.
