Bungoma Woman Rep Catherine Wambilianga has called on UDA party to withdraw their candidate Mwambu Mabonga from the race and instead back Ford Kenya’s Wafula Wakoli.
In an interview with the press at Mabanga ATC on Thursday, Wambilianga said the Bungoma Senate seat left vacant by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula was a Ford Kenya position and they won't allow UDA to compete with them.
The lawmaker said the seat should remain in Ford Kenya calling on Bungoma electorate to rally behind Wafula’s bid.
Wambilianga argues that during the August election, President William Ruto withdrew both UDA governor and senate post aspirants to support Ford Kenya.
“In Kenya Kwanza we signed a Memorandum of Understanding on how to work and that agreement also applies to this by-election," she said.
She added, “President William Ruto is also aware that Bungoma Senate seat belongs to Ford Kenya.”
On Ford Kenya party feud, Wambilianga affirmed that Wetang’ula is still the Ford Kenya boss arguing that former assembly speaker Justin Muturi was a party leader while serving as the National Assembly speaker.
Wambilianga who doubles as the Bungoma county Ford Kenya party chairperson said Ford Kenya is prepared to face off with UDA.
Kenya Kwanza MPs led by Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama are fronting Mabonga, a former Bumula MP, to replace Wetang’ula.
Wambilianga’s sentiments come a day after MCAs allied to Ford Kenya endorsed Wafula’s bid to replace Wetang’ula.
Ford Kenya MCAs led by Tuuti/ Marakaru MCA Joseph Nyongesa said Wafula is equal to the task affirming that all MCAs in Ford Kenya will back him.
