ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi failed to secure his backyard as ODM and UDA outshined him in the concluded election.

Despite rallying voters to elect an ANC member of Parliament in his Sabatia constituency, residents voted for Clement Sloya of UDA.

“We are in the same camp, yes, but I can assure you Sugoi people can’t elect an ANC member of Parliament. My people, don’t embarrass me,” Mudavadi had urged residents.

However his prayer was quashed as Sloya garnered 23,835 votes against ANC's Emmanuel Ayodi who got 10,539 votes.

Others were independent candidate Ikumu Arafat who garnered 2,631 votes, DAP-K's Hudson Andambi (1,825), ODM's Timothy Kidunduhu (1,496) and PPOK's Dennis Ajenga (566).

Also, independent candidate Linda Libese (520), Kanu's Majani Charles (460) and Ford Kenya's Alex Kidake who garnered 268 votes.

Already Arafat and Kidake conceded defeat via social media pages and congratulated the MP-elect.

Mudavadi also suffered a blow in the Vihiga county assembly where his party failed to get majority MCAs, losing to ODM.

ODM chairman Zebeddy Osabwa said Mudavadi’s fate lies on the presidential outcomes.

“If Ruto wins he will politically redeem himself. If Raila wins then Mudavadi’s fate is sealed, unless otherwise,” he told the Star on phone.

Vihiga Senator-elect Godfrey Osotsi said the MPs elected via ANC clinched their seats because of their political strength and not the party they were in.

“Emuhaya MP Omboko Millemba, Hamisi MP Charles Gimose, Vihiga MP Ernest Kagesi survived on their own, not at the mercy of the party,” Osotsi said on phone.

The UDA MP-elect for Sabatia constituency congratulated his supporters for trusting him to lead the constituency.

“I take this opportunity to first of all thank God who gave us uncommon favour. Also, the people of Sabatia and friends who stood by me through thick and thin, to realise this renaissance that we hoped for.

“This win is not for Sloya but for the people of Sabatia. Once more I say Asante Sana,” he said via his Facebook page.

Sloya however urged his competitors to come on board and be part of the team that will build a new Sabatia.

“Let's us join hands in making Sabatia a model constituency where the socioeconomic environment will be conducive for all,” he said.
