Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has dwarfed ANC boss Musalia Mudavadi in the battle for Western kingpin.

Oparanya delivered a super victory for Azimio leader Raila Odinga in the region.

The ODM deputy party leader was in-charge of Azimio’s campaigns in the larger vote-rich region, that was reduced to a battlefield between Raila and UDA’s William Ruto.

The camps traversed the entire region campaigning to secure the crucial vote bloc.

Mudavadi and Ford Kenya boss Moses Wetang'ula were in charge of the region for the DP under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and signed a deal to deliver at least 70 per cent of the votes.

In the just concluded election, Raila trounced Ruto in the entire region except for Bungoma county where the DP commanded the lead, undermining Oparanya’s influence.

Raila’s Azimio and especially ODM and DAP-K also scooped most governor, parliamentary and MCAs seats in the counties.

“I take this opportunity to sincerely thank our supporters in the Western region for delivering votes and majority of elective seats to our presidential candidate Raila,” Oparanya said on Thursday.

Last December, the Luhya council of elders named Oparanya as the spokesperson of the community, a politically influential position.

He took over from Mudavadi.

However, the ANC leader rejected Oparanya’s coronation setting the stage for a political battle between the two, in the general election.

In Mudavadi’s home county of Vihiga, Raila got 60.59 per cent of the 159,725 votes counted against Ruto’s 38.35 per cent.

Raila’s ODM also scooped governor, senator, and MP seats in the county, where Mudavadi camped and pleaded for residents to elect the UDA candidate.

In Kakamega, Oparanya’s county, Raila garnered 70.90 per cent of the 494,766 votes counted compared to the DP’s 28.15 per cent.

ODM and DAP got 11 parliamentary seats out of 15 elective seats and 48 MCA seats.

The party won Kakamega woman representative, Butere, Khwisero, Mumias West, Matungu, Lurambi, Ikolomani, Navakholo, Lugari and Likuyani parliamentary seats.

DAP-Kenya, an affiliate of Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party won the Mumias East parliamentary seat.

The governor election for Kakamega will however be conducted on August 23.

This is after the IBEC suspended the polls due to a mix-up in details and candidates’ photos.

In Busia, Raila got 81.84 per cent of the 266,711 votes tallied, compared to Ruto’s 17.48 per cent.

Raila’s ODM also won governor and five out of seven MP seats. Azimio's affiliate party National Reconstruction Alliance won the Senate seat.

In Trans Nzoia, which opinion polls had classified as a swing county, Raila commands 51.35 per cent of the 210,838 votes counted.

Ruto, on the other hand scooped 48.14 per cent of the votes.

DAP-K’s George Natembeya won the governor's seat. ODM and DAP-K also won parliamentary and MCA seats.

Kenya Kwanza, however, controlled Bungoma where Ruto got the majority of the votes and elective seats including governor and senator.

Ruto got 63.34 per cent of the 392,062 votes counted, beating Raila who got 35.68 per cent.

Outgoing Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka won the governor seat on the Ford Kenya ticket with Wetang'ula easily retaining his Senate seat.
