United Democratic Party (UDP) on Friday launched an office in Bungoma county that will coordinate its activities in the region.

UDP is led by former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, a member of the One Kenya Alliance.

Addressing the media at the office during the opening, the party's Bungoma county chairman Martin Wanyonyi said they are seeking to build a support base in the region ahead of the August 9, polls.

Wanyonyi who is also the Township ward MCA aspirant noted that the party is keen on competing with other parties for elective seats in the county and whole of the Western region.

"UDP has put in place nominations rules that will favour every aspirant who will need to contest using UDP," Wanyonyi said.

He said that the party is aimed at taking over from other parties that have been popular in the region.

"We have been frustrated in other parties from the region that is why we have decided to be in UDP," he said.

Wanyonyi said the party will field candidates in all positions in Bungoma county.
