Two people, including a Form 3 student, died in a road accident near Nyangiela market along Rodi Kopany- Oyugis road in Kasipul constituency.

The student of Kuoyo Mixed Secondary School and another pillion passenger died on the spot on Monday evening when a boda boda rider who was ferrying them collided with another motorbike.

Witnesses said the two riders were moving in the opposite direction when the accident occurred.

They did not turn on their head lights causing confusion.

“Confusion and collision occurred because the riders failed to notice each other as their lights were off,” one of the residents said.

The injured were taken Rachuonyo South Subcounty Hospital, while the bodies were taken to the hospital's mortuary.

Speaking on Tuesday, Rachuonyo South Subcounty police commander Lilies Wachira asked motorists to ensure they turn on headlights at night.

The wreckage of motorbikes were towed to Oyugis police station.

“Let all road users observe traffic rules to avoid such accidents,” Wachira said.
