West Mugirango MP-elect Stephen Mogaka has assured residents no student will be sent home for lack of school fees.

He said most university and college students have not been benefiting from the constituency bursary kitty.

The city lawyer spoke on Tuesday in Nyamira town after giving Sh2 million to aid more than 500 first-year students joining various universities.

He said the amount will cater to the students' transport to the various institutions and shopping allowances.

“This is the beginning of ensuring no student remains at home due to school fees challenges. We regret that the former leadership did not take into consideration the importance of education for our students,” Mogaka said.

"Some of us can testify what education has done for us. That is why as your MP, I am going to fight and ensure no students especially those from needy families are left out.

"We start working immediately. We want to have an informed society and to achieve that we must make education a priority."

He said there was no transparency in the disbursement of bursaries under the regime of his predecessor.

“The way bursaries have been disbursed is not pleasing at all. We must utilise government funds better to improve the lives of the electorate,” Mogaka said.
