Residents of Kisii on Friday rejected calls by ODM leaders to vote on a six-piece format during the August 9 polls.

They said they will choose leaders based on policies and agendas but not their party affiliations.

The reaction came after Robert Monda, the running mate to Kisii governor candidate Simba Arati asked them to do so for the sake of development.

Monda was addressing mourners at Nyanderema village in Nyaribari Chache during the burial of retired teacher Josephat Oiruria on Friday.

"I am urging you to choose leaders from Azimio la Umoja because they stand a better chance of providing better services," Monda said.

"The ODM leader Raila Odinga has suffered a lot while fighting for the country's democracy that is why he deserves to be the fifth president."

Meanwhile, Chris Obure who also seeking to succeed Governor James Ongwae said he will consult residents on the projects he should prioritise if elected.

Obure, who is running on the Jubilee ticket said that he will involve all stakeholders in development from all the nine constituencies.

"Leadership is not about an individual but the electorate. I am telling our people that I will prioritise projects that benefit them if they give me the opportunity to lead them," Obure said.

Obure said he will provide a conducive business environment for small-scale traders, investors, boda boda operators, hawkers and shoe shiners.

The former Infrastructure CAS said that he will ensure funds channeled to the devolved unit and employment opportunities are fairly distributed.

“My administration will work with the business community to identify priority projects and implement them to improve livelihoods,” he said.

Others eyeing the governor seat include Senator Sam Ongeri(DAP-K), Ezekiel Machogu(UDA) and Manson Oyongo(KNC).
