Intergovernmental Authority on Development chief advisor and consultant Kenneth Kambona has joined the race to succeed Homa  Senator Moses Kajwang'.

Others in the race to succeed Kajwang' are Kabondo East MCA James Ochieng, human rights activist Michael Kojo and Samora Kalosi.

Kambona will vie on the ODM party.

Since Homa Bay politicians started campaigning, the senator race has been considered less competitive, compared to the governor, parliamentary and county assembly seats.

Kambona says governor, senator and woman representative positions in Homa Bay should be occupied by new leaders.

Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti is serving his second and last term.

Woman rep Gladys Wanga will not defend her post. She is vying for the governor seat.

Speaking to journalists in Homa Bay town on Wednesday, Kambona said the new leaders will enable the county to make milestones in development.

He said Homa Bay had been ranked poorly on development.

“We must have a new governor and woman rep due to the constitutional requirement and the prevailing circumstances in Homa Bay. I want to be a senator to start a new chapter of development,” Kambona said.

The IGAD advisor said he will ensure a proper oversight role is exercised in Homa Bay for the prudent utilisation of public funds.

He said doing so will transform the lives of Homa Bay residents and make the county ranked in a better position.

“Our county has always been ranked at the bottom. I want to be in a team of new leaders who will transform it,” he said.

He began traversing various constituencies in Homa Bay to seek the support of voters.

Senator Kajwang’ convened a meeting with the electorate at his home in Suba North constituency last weekend after touring various parts of the county to sell his senator bid.

Ochieng has also begun touring the county to woo voters.
