Three aspirants in the Homa Bay governor race have asked ODM to conduct peaceful and credible primaries.

The party plans to hold nominations next month.

The three are former Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga, former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and ODM chairman John Mbadi.

Magwanga said on Monday credible nominations will provide justice to residents and aspirants eyeing the seat.

ODM is the most popular party in Homa Bay county.

In 2017, all MPs, the woman rep, the senator and the governor were elected on the ODM ticket.

Magwanga said ODM nomination is significant as its candidates will have higher chances of emerging winners in the August 9 polls.

He expressed confidence of winning the party ticket if the primaries will be free and fair.

“My track record of development puts me ahead of everybody. Kasipul constituency was rated high on prudent utilisation of funds during my tenure,” Magwanga said.

Speaking at Pala market in North Karachuonyo ward, Magwanga said some of his competitors had not demonstrated excellence in the utilisation of public funds.

The former legislator said governorship requires a leader with managerial skills, not just a politician.

Magwanga promised to develop the county if elected governor.

“I understand the needs of the people from various constituencies in Homa Bay. My agenda is to undertake various development projects to satisfy their needs,” he said.

Kidero, who campaigned at Sindo market, Suba South constituency, rooted for universal suffrage in the ODM party primaries.

“All we want is for the people to choose a candidate in a transparent manner,” he said.

Kidero promised to solve the water shortage problem affecting various towns in the county.

“There are many towns where residents lack clean water for domestic use despite their proximity to Lake Victoria. We will fix this problem,” he said.

ODM chairman John Mbadi said credible nominations will improve the image of the Orange party.

“I’m ready to face off with other colleagues to show that there is no preferred person in the nomination. We want peaceful and credible exercise,” Mbadi said when he toured Wanga Pala in Kabondo Kasipul constituency.

Others eyeing the governor's seat include Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, Homa Bay Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata and former county secretary Isaiah Ogwe.
