Marsabit Senator Mohamed Chute has said Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki should have consulted local leaders on his plans to weed out bandits from the Marsabit Forest.

Chute, in an interview with the Star on Thursday, said local leaders have no idea what Kindiki has planned as he tries to end banditry in the area.

"What we are thinking of is consultation. He goes to Marsabit, where we have people who live in Marsabit, local politicians, elders and leaders so if he is not consulting any of us, that means he is doing his own things in his own world " Chute told the Star.

He said consultation with the local leaders is important as they might have a thing or two to tell Kindiki.

Chute, however,  said whether Kindiki consults the local leaders or not, all he wants is peace for the people of Marsabit.

"If what he is doing now is going to achieve peace by not talking to us, that is fine. We have no issue, I will be happy to wait and see," Chute said.

The CS, on Wednesday,  ordered an immediate operation to flush out bandits in the Marsabit Forest.

Kindiki recently met the county's security and intelligence team in Marsabit Town and order them to investigate and apprehend persons responsible for recent killings.

"The government will also seal off and limit access to Marsabit forest that armed criminals and livestock rustlers have been using as a hideout," the CS said.
