Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has ordered an immediate operation to flush out armed bandits in Marsabit forest.

Speaking on Wednesday when he met the County Security and Intelligence team in Marsabit Town, Kindiki instructed them to investigate, apprehend and prosecute the persons behind recent killings.

The CS said the ministry was committed to recovering all illegal firearms.

"The government will also seal off and limit access to Marsabit forest that armed criminals and livestock rustlers have been using as a hideout."

During the county visit, Kindiki also met with political, religious and community leaders.

He said peace building structures will be reactivated in an aim to encourage Marsabit residents to live in harmony.

The process will be spearheaded by the security team.

This comes days after the government said it had cleared bandits and other criminals from their hideouts in the North Rift.

While fielding questions in the Senate on April 26, Kindiki said the ongoing operation in the area had been a big success.

"All these places, the caves, gorges and ravines, all others that were being used as hideouts for bandits have been cleared and dominated by security forces."

The operations were mounted in six troubled counties of Samburu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Turkana, West Pokot and Marsabit.
