Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has told retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to retire from active politics.

Muthama said Uhuru had successfully served his two-year term and should go home and relax.

“Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta you have ruled for 10 years, now just go home and relax. Kenyan has over 50 million people so we can't lack a leader,” Muthama said.

The seasoned politician who doubles as a member of the Parliamentary Service Commission was addressing mourners during the burial ceremony of his brother-in-law, Peter Mutiso, in Tala, Machakos county on Monday.

“As we bid our final farewell to a loved one, it made me reflect on the state of our nation's politics,” Muthama said.

He said Uhuru should gracefully retire from national politics, just like his predecessors — Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki.

“Ruto is anointed by God. He managed to beat you and Raila despite saying you had the deep state. Having served as the President for a decade, one must question what more Uhuru aims to achieve if he is not driven by personal ambitions," Muthama said.

"It is crucial for our leaders to prioritise the greater good of the nation over personal interests and pave the way for fresh perspectives and new leadership."

Muthama applauded the Kamba community for what he termed as their restraint and peaceful approach during the ‘politically charged times.’

“Rather than taking to the streets and joining protests, they have chosen to uphold peace and stability. Their actions reflect the resilience and maturity of our community, highlighting the importance of dialogue and unity in addressing our concerns,” Muthama said.
