The vetting of 10 executives nominated by Governor Julius Malombe finally got underway on Thursday after a month of back and forth.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption last month directed that no vetting should take place until it had cleared the nominees.

It finally formally cleared the nominees and county assembly speaker Kevin Katisya announced they would be vetted on Thursday and Friday.

The interviews are being conducted by the Appointments committee, which is chaired by Katisya.

Katisya told the media on Thursday morning that to enhance transparency, the vetting will be streamed live on YouTube, Facebook and Kamba language TV stations.

“Basically vetting is a political process. The Committee on Appointments is carrying out this exercise on behalf of the entire house and the people of Kitui county. It is important to be open and transparent,” he said.

Katisya said an advert put in the newspapers invited members of the public to file any reservations they had with any of the nominees with the committee.

“Some members of the public have already filed their memoranda. So we want the members of the public to follow what is happening on social media for the sake of transparency,” he said.

He said the live streaming will give members of the public a sense of how each of the nominees performed during the vetting.

“We want to be [as] open and transparent as it can get,” Katisya said.

The nominees who will face the vetting panel on Thursday include Richard Mwanduka, Phoebe Mutemi, Peter Kilonzo, Rose Mutuku and Stephen Kimwele.

Ruth Koki, Reuben Itiko, Joyce Masila, Peter Nkunda and Fredrick Kimanga will be vetted on Friday.
