Kitui county public service board has come out to clean its name following widespread accusations that they were trading job vacancies.

On Monday the board chairperson Florence Makindi said jobs were given out free of charge.

She further sought to disparage accusations that the board members were involved in rent-seeking. She warned members of the public against giving bribes or canvassing for jobs.

Makindi, however, admitted that crooks impersonating board members were fleecing gullible and unsuspecting job seekers by collecting money from them promising them non-existent jobs.

She said the matter had been reported to the police.

Allegations that Kitui people were being asked for bribes to be hired by the county public service board have been rife. Governor Julius Malombe has also raised concerns about the allegations.

“Everybody should be warned that this culture will not be condoned,” Malombe said.

In a statement she read to the media on Monday, Makindi said her board was concerned by the allegations.

“Kitui County Public Service Board does not charge for its services which are free. Neither does it condone bribery and acts of corruption in the process of discharging its duties including recruitment and promotion of staff,” Makindi said.

She at the same time urged the public to report to the police any unscrupulous individuals masquerading as representatives of the board to solicit money in exchange for employment.
