Kirinyaga woman representative Njeri Maina is urging Kenyans to give a deaf ear to leaders inciting them to default in paying the hustler fund.

Maina cautions that failure for the debtors to pay the empowerment fund would lead to the crumbling of the economy, which President William Ruto’s government is working hard to stabilise.

The legislator spoke on Saturday during the during the distribution of the National Government Affirmative action fund in Mwea, Kirinyaga county.

She urged Kenyans to be responsible and not misuse the kindness and privilege granted by the creditor, through devising ways of defaulting as that will affect them in the long run.

“I want to advise all Kenyans borrowing from this kitty to pay up the loan within the stipulated timelines. Failure to that would see our economy collapse, which will in turn affect us all,” Maina said.

Maina said clearing the loan on time is one way of Kenyans showing their patriotism and support for the current administration.

She encouraged Kenyans to continue supporting Ruto’s administration as it has a lot in store for Kenyans.

Her sentiments come days after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino poured cold water on the hustler fund urging Kenyans not to pay the loan after borrowing.

Owino said the country has no enough jails to accommodate all the defaulters.

Maina further hailed President Ruto's proposal on the creation of the official leader of opposition.

She says the comeback of the crucial official will help strengthen the opposition in bid to keep the government in check.

The legislator said every accountable government needs a strong opposition to keep it on it’s toes, so that it can perform and dispense its duties within the confines of the law.

She said the country does not need to go for a referendum in order for the law to permit the establishment of the office.

Maina instead says the amendment can easily be made in Parliament.

“This office will be crucial in keeping the government in check. It will also give the opposition a credible platform to air it’s concerns. This will curb a lot of street protests, which are a threat to our economy,” she said.

Maina while distributing the NGAAF monies called on the government to increase the funds from the Sh7 million, for more needy groups to benefit.

The groups of of widows and persons living with disability got cheques of Sh100,000.

The legislator also challenged the relevant departments to come to the rescue of persons living with disability and empower them to be beneficial members of the society.

She decried that a lot of PWDs suffer from negligence, leaving them in a sorry state.

This, she says, is despite a substantial amount of funds having been secured to help them resolve their plights.

The MP called on all leaders and the county governments to play their part in economically empowering PWDs so that they can also positively partake in the national building.

Lucy Nyawira, one of the beneficiaries hailed the funds saying it will help boost their poultry project.

She said the money gotten from the project will in turn help their families and keep their children in school.

Nyawira said the project was on the verge of crumbling due to lack of finances but with the help of the money, it will prosper.
