Over Sh8.87 billion from the Hustler Fund has been disbursed as loans since the launch of the programme on December 1.

An update by Cooperatives and MSME Development Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui put the amount at Sh8,876,811,823 as at 3pm on Friday, December 16.

The data further indicated that Sh2,055,201,447 loans had been repaid while the number of registered members stood 16,310,414.

CS Chelugui added that borrowers have collectively saved Sh443,714,585.

The total number of transactions is 15,398,576 while the number of repeat borrowers is 2,060,920.

The Sh50 billion kitty is specifically designed to support small-scale traders in the country at eight per cent interest rate per annum.

Lending is capped at a minimum of Sh500 and a maximum of Sh50,000 depending on a borrower's credit rating.

The Hustler Fund comprises four products: personal, micro business, SME and start-up loans.

To access the fund, Kenyans can dial *254# on their mobile phones.
