The IEBC has been urged to remove from the race any aspirant found paying youths to destroy campaign materials of their competitors.
Political commentator Macharia Waweru said the electoral agency should come up with guidelines to punish anyone found destroying posters.
He said campaign materials such as fliers, billboards and posters are destroyed by being tearing or covering them with other materials.
“The government has given politicians freedom to campaign and they are doing so through these materials,” Waweru said.
“The police should arrest those found destroying the campaign materials and charge them with malicious destruction of property. On top, the IEBC may summon them and warn them and later if they repeat, it can remove them from the race.”
He spoke after several MP hopefuls in Kikuyu raised concerns over destruction of their campaign materials.
Kanu party candidate Stephen Kigathi said on Monday his posters had been destroyed by people who were paid by politicians.
He urged young people to desist from being misused by politicians.
"Let us preach peace and exercise it. Let us not make anyone angry or lose hope. None of us will get votes as a bloc," Kigathi said.
He spoke in Kikuyu town during a meet-the-people campaign.
Kigathi is competing with incumbent Kimani Ichung'wa (UDA), Owen Ndung'u (Jubilee party) and George Gitau (Chama Cha Kazi).
He told his competitors to expect a fierce campaign since he is campaigning door-to-door.
Aspirant’s posters have been destroyed in Kikuyu town, Kinoo, Kidfarmaco, Sigona, Thogoto, Kiamburu, Karai and Gitaru.
