DAP-K leader Wafula Wamunyinyi and the Kanduyi MP John Makali have buried the hatchet and promised to work together to transform Kanduyi constituency.

Wamunyinyi is the former Kanduyi MP.

Speaking at the Kanduyi National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) offices on Monday during the handing over ceremony, Wamunyinyi lauded Makali for winning the seat.

"Today is a historic day in Kanduyi constituency. Being a long-serving MP in the region, I am privileged to hand over the mantle to my old friend lawyer John Makali as he takes over the constituency leadership," he said.

The DAP-K leader called on Kanduyi residents to work with Makali and take the constituency to the next level.

"I know there are areas that I did not deliver to people's expectation. I hope my brother Makali will make sure he improves it," Wamunyinyi said.

On the Bungoma Senatorial by-election, the former legislator declined to comment on who will be the Azimio flagbearer.

Wamunyinyi, however, said that during the August 9 election, pressure was piled on him to vie for a bigger seat because he was the party leader.

So far, the Bungoma senator's position has attracted more than ten aspirants seeking to replace National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula.

The aspirants who have shown interest in the seat are all from the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Wamunyinyi asked MPs to fight hard at the National Assembly and ensure that no one tampers with the NG-CDF.

"The NG-CDF plays a key role in supporting education in Kenya. Therefore, I appeal to all members from both the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio to ensure that they stand firm," he said.

The DAP-K leader also asked Makali to prioritise education and health in the constituency.

“I had started some schools within this constituency. I expect my successor to complete them and ensure that there is smooth running of education programmes,” he said.

Makali told the Star he is ready to work with the former MP to deliver to Kanduyi people, adding he won't victimise NG-CDF workers who were in the outgoing office.

"Wamunyinyi is now our consultant here in Bungoma. I have no bad blood with him. That was politics but now we have now embarked on serious work," he said.

"During campaigns we had different factions supporting various candidates, but Kanduyi has one MP known as John Makali, I will work towards uniting all people."
