Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo says he is still not thinking of the Kenyan Premier League despite registering progress in their recent matches.

Homeboyz beat Ulinzi Stars 1-0 at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday to move to fourth on the log with 21 points, just one behind third-placed KCB and a further four behind leaders Posta Rangers.

“We came into the match targeting a draw but ended up with three points after taking advantage of our opponents' lapse of concentration towards the end,” said Odhiambo.

But despite their current consistency, which has seen them win three games in a row while keeping three clean sheets, Odhiambo won’t be dragged into talking about winning the title.

“We may have won three on the trot, scoring eight goals and keeping three clean sheets, but it is early days to talk about the title. We are not even halfway through the season,” added Odhiambo.

He said beating a physically and tactically astute Ulinzi side was not an easy task, not on the road.

Odhiambo said combining his young players, led by striker Moses Shummah, Brian Buleti and Ambrose Sifuna, with their experienced players will ensure they push hard until the last game.

The former Gor Mahia coach who led the Kakamega side to their first-ever silverware,  the FKF cup title last season, is currently focusing on this weekend's encounter against Bidco

Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars Anthony 'Modo' Kimani is a worried man after losing three games on the bounce, conceding four times and scoring none.

“I believe my team is playing well and we deserved at least a draw against Homeboyz, but luck wasn’t on our side”.

The former Kenyan international defender says he is not worried much about conceding but his Achilles heel lies in defending set pieces and lack of concentration towards the end.

Ulinzi, who are 12th on the table with 13 points from 12 matches, face Talanta on Sunday as Kimani seeks to return to winning ways.
