Newly-appointed Mara Sugar coach Vincent Nyaberi has been tasked with leading the team to the Kenyan Premier League next season.

Nyaberi, who led Murang’a Seal to promotion last season, was unveiled as Mara Sugar coach on Monday in the team’s base in Enoosaen, Narok County.

He takes over from Francis Xavier, who parted ways with the club to join KPL side Sofapaka as an assistant coach.

He was among 25 coaches who graduated with a CAF 'B' Licence on Friday at the Kenya School of Special Education.

Mara Sugar team manager Thomas Mboya said: “We settled on Nyaberi because he is experienced and has handled several teams in the NSL. Having a CAF 'B' Licence which means we will retain him if we are promoted to the top league.”

“Our objective remains an automatic qualification to the Kenyan Premier League. Nyaberi signed a contract until the end of the season but renewable depending on performance.”

Even though he watched the team’s 2-1 loss Mulembe United at Mumias Sports Complex on Saturday, his first game in charge of the Millers will be against Mombasa Elite on Saturday at Awendo Green Stadium.

Nyaberi will be keen to stabilise a side that has not tasted victory since Xavier's departure, with two losses and a draw.

Consequently, they have dropped to third on the log with 14 points from eight matches. Mathare United lead the proceedings with 16 points, one better than second-placed Kisumu All Stars.

Mara finished fourth in the second-tier league last, missing the promotion playoff slot by a whisker.
