Gor Mahia’s tactician Johnathan McKinstry has scooped the FKF Premier League Manager of the Week award after leading his team to a 1-0 win over Tusker during their game week seven match played at the Moi Stadium Kasarani on October 22.

This was K’ogalo’s second straight win since drawing with KCB at the Nyayo Stadium in game week five.

McKinstry beat Ken Kenyatta of FC Talanta who won 3-1 against league leaders Posta Rangers at Utalii grounds as well as Sofapaka tactician Ezekiel Akwana who led his charges to their first league win over Kenya Police FC at the Machakos Stadium

The Irish tactician joined Gor in July 2022 on a two-year deal after departing from the Uganda national team and led Gor to a League title in his first season.

McKinstry had also led the Cranes to the 2019 CECAFA (Council for East and Central Africa Football Association).

Last season, Gor secured the title after amassing 70 points, one more than Tusker. They managed 20 wins, and 10 draws and suffered only four defeats.

The gaffer had earlier before the start of the season sent a warning to the other league teams warning them that they were going to retain the league title.

Gor currently sits second with 15 points being the only team in the league with zero losses after seven matches.

Gor’s no-nonsense defender Geoffrey Ochieng was also named the FKF Premier League player of the week after his impressive display in their win over Tusker.

Ochieng beat Sofapaka’s midfielder Khalid Jumaan and Kariobangi Sharks Geoffrey Onyango to win the coveted award.

The defender was solid in the back fending off Tusker's attack to secure a much-deserved clean sheet and win that mounts pressure on current league leaders Posta Rangers who are just a point ahead of the defending champions.

K’ogalo got their goal through the current league's top scorer Benson Omala early in the first half via a diving header after connecting well with Patrick Sibomana’s cross.

The goal has however brought with it much controversy as many fans view the positioning of the striker to be offside when he headed home the match’s solitary goal.

Gor Mahia will be playing host to Bidco United on Saturday at 3pm in the Moi Stadium Kasarani where a win for them and a loss for the Mailmen will push them to the top of the standings.

FC Bandari was also named team of the week for their heroics against AFC Leopards where they beat them 1-0 at the Mbaraki Stadium on October 22.
