Following the club's delectable victory over fierce rivals AFC Leopards over the weekend, Gor Mahia supporters are gratifyingly strutting the streets of Nairobi while banging their chests.

The multiple Kenyan Premier League champions walloped Ingwe 2-0 at Moi Stadium, Kasarani to reclaim the Mashemeji derby bragging rights.

Benson Omalla's unmatched finesse did all the alchemy for K'Ogalo, his splendid brace at both ends of the interval, separating the two sides at full time.

It was a sweet victory for the Johnathan McKinstry-tutored side who, only four months ago, left Nyayo Stadium a disappointed lot after crashing 2-1 to their perennial nemesis.

The street festivities that marked the triumph revealed just how significant the win was to the die-hard K'Ogalo fan base. With Saturday's win, the 20-time Kenyan champions maintained their second position on the KPL log with 12 points, four adrift of leaders Posta Rangers.

However, there were isolated incidences of ugliness when frustrated Ingwe fans, unable to chew the bitter pill of defeat, began flinging various projectiles into the pitch in protest.

Meanwhile, the worrisome outcry demanding the firing of troubled head coach Tom Juma and his entire technical staff continued throughout the game.

Leopards are yet to pick a win this season and languish precariously in the yellow zone, second from the bottom of the table with a paltry four points from six league encounters.

Last Saturday marked the 94th clash between the two sides. With 31 victories, Gor Mahia boasts the best statistical record in the derby. Whereas Leopards have 27 wins, the sides have shared spoils 34 times.

Before ending their losing streak with the landmark win on May 13, the last time Ingwe beat K'Ogalo was in 2016. Since then, Gor Mahia have won nine of their 12 encounters against Leopards.

Elsewhere, the Tusker head coach Robert Matano found himself surrounded by a bunch of rowdy fans demanding to know why he lost to Shabana 1-0 at Moi Stadium, Kasarani.

It was Shabana's first win of the season in six games, a decent boost for the KPL returnees who are yet to assert themselves in the competition. The Kisii-based club are currently 14th on the log with six points while Tusker are sixth with eight points.

Muranga Seal continued their fine run in their maiden top-flight campaign with an emphatic 2-0 victory over the more experienced Sofapaka at St. Sebastian Park in Muranga.

The win leaves Seal in third position with 12 points, owing to their inferior goal difference compared to second-placed Gor Mahia. Sofapaka's woes continued even as the outcome condemned them to their fifth defeat of the season.

They are at the tail end of the table with a solitary point they picked in their one-all draw against Gor in their season opener.

Newly appointed gaffer Zdravko Logarusic picked his back-to-back win after wringing out a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nairobi City Stars at Kasarani Annex on Friday. The victory inspired the law enforcers to fourth position with nine points.

City Stars are now ninth with eight points. Defending FKF Cup champions, Kakamega Homeboyz played out to a three-all draw against Talanta FC at Bukhungu Stadium.

The outcome leaves Homeboyz eighth in the standings with eight points while Talanta are now eleventh with seven points. Posta Rangers, who currently lead the table with 16 points, trounced Nzoia Sugar 2-0 at Thika Stadium to maintain their lead.

The Bungoma-based millers, on the other hand, are third from the bottom with five points. Despite defeating Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday, Ulinzi Stars remain in the relegation zone in 15th place with six points.  Sharks are seventh with eight points.
