Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo has said they will be going for maximum points in their crunch Kenyan Premier League tie against defending champions Gor Mahia.

The two sides will flex muscles at Bukhungu Stadium in one of four topflight matches scheduled for Sunday.

Both head into the encounter on the back of impressive performances in the preceding season where Gor clinched the Premier League title and Homeboyz the FKF Cup.

“This is just like any other match we’ve played this season and we are not under any sort of pressure,” Odhiambo said.

“We are determined to collect maximum points from all our remaining matches and, hopefully, we will be able to replicate the performance we displayed in our last league match where we beat Tusker 2-1.”

Odhiambo played town claims that he is currently grappling with a selection headache.

“It’s up to players to prove themselves during training. We shall not be giving any of them special treatment. They all deserve to be in the squad,” Odhiambo said. “Competition is healthy for the team because it pushes the players beyond their limits and in turn leads to good results.”

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry said they will be keen on dislodging Posta Rangers from the summit.

K’Ogalo are second on the table with seven points, the same as Posta Rangers, who enjoy a better goal difference.

“I’ve advised my players to take an early command of the league to ease the pressure that comes in the final phase of the season and they all agreed to put their best foot forward,” McKinstry said.

“We can’t afford to relax on Sunday. We are facing a very good side with international exposure. We respect Homeboyz but we are going for maximum points.”

Although Homeboyz beat Gor in the last two consecutive encounters, McKinstry said past statistics will not influence the outcome of Sunday’s match.

“Whatever happened in the past is now water under the bridge. We have already worked on the mistakes that made it easier for them to beat us in our last fixture,” McKinstry said.
