TITLE DEFENCE

Ochola tips K’Ogalo Gor Mahia to retain KPL title

In an exclusive interview on Tuesday, Ochola lavished praise on the team’s sterling performance thus far.

In Summary

• K’Ogalo are joint leaders with seven points, alongside Posta Rangers, who enjoy a healthier goal difference.

• “We didn’t go for the big names this time around. Rather we recruited players we knew could deliver on the pitch. Their potential is reflected in results we have posted to date,” Ochola said.

Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ochola reckons they have employed adequate manpower to steer the side to a record 21st title this season.

In an exclusive interview on Tuesday, Ochola lavished praise on the team’s sterling performance thus far.

K’Ogalo are joint leaders with seven points, alongside Posta Rangers, who enjoy a healthier goal difference.

They set their season in motion with a drab goalless draw against Sofapaka at Moi Stadium, Kasarani and followed it up with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars.

Their last outing was a resounding 4-1 thrashing of City Stars.

“The players are at the top of their game and we expect the momentum to continue,” Ochola remarked. “We have games against Kakamega Homeboyz and KCB and then the Mashemeji derby. Judging by how we have performed so far, we are confident of winning these matches,” Ochola said.

Ochola said they employed a different strategy in the concluded transfer window.

“We didn’t go for the big names this time around. Rather we recruited players we knew could deliver on the pitch. Their potential is reflected in results we have posted to date,” Ochola said.

Head coach Jonathan McKinistry echoed Ochola’s sentiments in a separate interview, saying he too was satisfied with the valiant efforts charges had put into their campaign thus far.

McKinstry said their 4-1 thumping of Nairobi City Stars attests to the rich depth of the current squad.

“We made a clear statement about our resolve to defend our title this season,” McKinstry said. “You saw the fire in this team when we faced Ulinzi a fortnight ago. Our performance in the three matches clearly shows we can rise above any opposition and seal maximum points.”

The Irish gaffer, nonetheless, dared his charges to push above and beyond, intimating they were yet to exhibit their full potential.

“My take is that the players have just displayed 70 per cent of their full potential and need to do quite a lot to improve in the coming matches,” McKinstry said.
