Vihiga Queens in tricky pool for Champions League qualifiers

The draw for the zonal qualifiers was conducted in Rabat, Morocco on Wednesday, with the third edition set to have nine teams divided into two pools.

Kenya Women's Premier League champions Vihiga Queens have been placed in group 'B' of the Cecafa club Champions League qualifiers set for Uganda from August 12-19.

The draw for the zonal qualifiers was conducted in Rabat, Morocco on Wednesday, with the third edition set to have nine teams divided into two pools.

The four-time league champions will do duty against Tanzania's JKT Queens, AS Kigali of Rwanda and Zanzibar's New Generation.

Vihiga will will begin their campaign against New Generation FC on August 13 before facing AS Kigali in the second game. They will wrap the group matches against JKT Queens.

Group 'B' games will be staged at the KCCA Stadium in Kampala.

Group 'A' will have five teams led by Uganda's Kampala Queens, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, FC FAD of Djibouti, Burundi's Buja Queens  and Yei Joint Stars of South Sudan.

The matches will be played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Jinja.

The winner will book the sole slot reserved for the region at the tournament proper later in the year in Ivory Coast.

Vihiga  won the inaugural edition in 2021 and represented the Cecafa region in the Champions League competition held in Egypt.

Last year, Simba Queens represented the region.

Kenya missed the chance to send a representative in 2022 as the country was serving a Fifa suspension at the time.
