Vihiga Queens coach Boniface Nyamunyamu maintains that the team needs to beef up in order to match their 2021 achievements during the Cecafa Club Champions League qualifiers set for Uganda in August.

The four-time Kenya Women's Premier League champions won the inaugural regional competition in 2021 held in Nairobi.

The Legacy Makers played in the competition proper in Egypt later that year, winning once in the group matches.

"The current squad is competitive but not good enough for the task awaiting the team," Nyamunyamu boldly said.

"I have shared with the management about the calibre of players that we need. We have to strengthen the squad if we have to go deeper in the competition. I won't be business as usual in Uganda because our rivals likely are plotting for our downfall," he added.

Nyamunyamu maintained that the team will move into a two-week residential training camp once the dates for the competition are confirmed.

"We are waiting for official confirmation on when the annual championship will begin. The players need to train and bond in a training camp. The competition is drawing closer," he said.

Vihiga won the 2021 edition unbeaten. The Vihiga County-sponsored side has however lost the spine of their title-winning squad.
