Defending champions of the Kenya Women's Premier League Vihiga Queens are worried about the threat posed by Kisumu All Starlets as the two sides face off in a league match on April 29 at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

The four-time WPL champions will miss the services of five players through injury, further posing a selection dilemma to coach Boniface Nyamunyamu.

Providence Khasiala has a tore injury while the duo of Robai Kebedi and Faith Marende are nursing knee injuries. Ruth Kasoa has been diagnosed with malaria. Philister Kadari who has missed a couple of games with a recurring knee injury also misses out.

"It is worrying that we have so many players out, especially during this crucial time. Injuries are beyond our control so we have to work with what we have," Nyamunyamu said.

He added: "Kisumu are not pushovers especially when playing in their backyard. We have to be prepared physically and mentally for an energy-sapping match. The players need to step up and fill the gaps that exist in the team"

Vihiga is tied on 37 points with Gaspo Women at the top of the standings.

The duo has, however, opened a five-point gap against third-placed Ulinzi Starlets with six matches left.

Vihiga will then take on 2021 champions Thika Queens in a crunch clash. Fixtures against Mumisa-based Wadadia, as well as Nakuru City Queens, will be pivotal for the legacy makers.
