GASPO FOCUSED

We are under no pressure to win WPL title - Githua

Six matches remain and stakeholders have tipped the title race to go down to the wire.

In Summary

• Any team in the top six is capable of winning the league. It is not about Vihiga or Gaspo as some people think.

• The league is very competitive this season and the team that maintains the good run will definitely be crowned-Githua.

Gaspo Women chairman Edward Githua reckons the team is not feeling the pressure at the top of the Kenya Women's Premier League table as the race for the title enters the homestretch.

Gaspo is tied on 37 points with defending champions Vihiga Queens but leads by a superior goal difference after 16 games. Six matches remain and stakeholders have tipped the title race to go down to the wire.

The Kiambu County team is bidding to win its maiden league title and destiny is in their own hands according to Githua.

"Any team in the top six is capable of winning the league. It is not about Vihiga or Gaspo as some people think. The league is very competitive this season and the team that maintains the good run will definitely be crowned."

Ulinzi, Nakuru, Wadadia and Thika Queens are third, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Githua's comments come after the Football Kenya Federation said the deadline for submitting the club's name that will take part in Cecafa Club Women's Champions League qualifiers is set for May 28.

The FKF also noted that fixtures will be adjusted to ensure the league ends before May 28.

Only the league winner will take part in the regional qualifier that will be staged in Uganda.

Vihiga represented the Cecafa region in 2021. The Legacy Makers also qualified for the main event in Egypt the same year.

Last year, Kenya did not field a team in the qualifiers because of the suspension by the World football governing body, Fifa.

"I agree with the FKF deadline.  It is a fair decision. We are determined and eager to represent Kenya in the qualifiers by winning the league but we cannot afford to have sleepless nights," Githua warned.
