Mathare United chairman, Bob Munro, says they are glad following their return to the Kenyan Premier League after many months of uncertainty.

The Slum Boys, who were relegated to the second division last season, got a lifeline alongside two other clubs, following a court ruling on Thursday.

The Constitutional Court of Kenya stayed a decision made earlier this month by the Sports Disputes Tribunal, nullifying the KPL's 2021/22 campaign.

Following the verdict, the FKF league and competition committee have now included Mathare United, Wazito, and Vihiga Bullets in the upcoming matches.

"As shown in the attached new FKFPL schedule, Mathare United will play Nzoia Sugar on December 22. The full revised schedule for the season will be released later this month," Munro said.

Munro regretted that uncertainty surrounding their topflight future had deterred potential shirt sponsors.

"After seven long and difficult months of legal and institutional uncertainty which sadly undermined and hindered all MUFC negotiations with potential sponsors, the FKF officially confirmed our participation in the 2022-23 FKF Premier League, Munro said.

On Thursday, FKFPL manager Mike Kamure wrote to Mathare, Wazito, and Vihiga Bullets, informing them of the latest development.

"Dear all, I believe this will find you well. Please look for the updated schedules for Round Five and Round Six and confirm the venues allocated for the Sixth Round matches in time to avoid last-minute disruption," Kamure wrote.

The FKF Transition Committee that managed KPL last season, demoted the three clubs while promoting National Super League champions APS Bomet and runners-up Fortune Sacco.

During its meeting last month, the FKF National Executive Committee canceled the season and revoked promotions across all levels.

Enraged by the move, APS Bomet filed a petition at the SDT, seeking to prevent Mathare, Wazito, and Vihiga from participating in the top tier until the matter is resolved.

SDT Judge John Ohaga ruled in favor of the club, concluding that the FKF NEC's decision was unfair.

However, APS Bomet's joy was short-lived, following Thursday's decision by the Constitutional Court.

Meanwhile, the KPL will return with the Fifth Round match scheduled for the weekend.

Sunday's clash between Kariobangi Sharks and Gor Mahia — which wasoriginally scheduled for Moi Stadium Kasarani — has now been moved to Nyayo Stadium.

Five matches will be played on Saturday with the clash between AFC Leopards and Posta Rangers at the Nyayo stadium highlighting the fixtures. Nairobi City Stars will travel to Sudi Stadium in Bungoma to play Nzoia Sugar.

Ulinzi Stars have an appointment with Sofapaka at Ulinzi Sports Complex while Bidco face KCB at Thika. Kakamega Homeboyz welcome Talanta to Bukhungu Stadium.
