KPA open BAL campaign against Burundi side

The semi-finals will be played on November 26 after a one-day break with the finals programmed for November 27.

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) open their Basketball Africa League (BAL) Elite 16 Division East campaign in Johannesburg South Africa on November 22 against Burundi's Urunani.

The porters, who play in Group A, meet host club Cape Town Tigers a day later before completing their fixture against NBA Academy Africa on November 24.

Ferroviaro de Maputo (Mozambique), Matero Magic (Zambia), City Oilers (Uganda) and COSPN (Madagascar) will for Pool 'B' and will play at the same venue.

The semi-finals will be played on November 26 after a one-day break with the finals programmed for November 27.

The winners of the semi-finals and the third-place team will qualify to the third edition of the BAL 2023. 

 Abidjan, Ivory Coast will host the West Division of the competition on November 14-19.

The top six from here will also progress.KPA coach Anthony Ojukwu said the porters' target is to make it to the semi-finals.

The long-serving tactician said the draw was not a tough one, but the team will have to work hard to progress.

"It's not a bad draw, but we have to work extremely hard to head the pool in order to enhance our chance to get to the semis, which is our target," Ojukwu offered.

The team started their training on Thursday with Ojukwu saying their target is to get to the medal bracket semis and plan from there.

"Our target is achievable if we win our three games in the pool and we hope to work hard towards that goal," he noted.

"KPA, qualified from Group D in the first round matches played in Madagascar last month. They finished second behind group winners and host club COSPN. 

 The dockers registered the biggest win margin in the qualifiers, whipping Djabal Club from Comoros Islands 120-37.
