Equity Bank Hawks thumped Eldonets 78-24 in a Kenya National Basketball Federation League women's match at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.

The two victories moved them to second position on the log with 18 points, the same as Storms who are third.

Unbeaten Kenya Ports Authority are top with 22 points. The bankers went off to an 18-4 start and led 39-8 at the break. They moved up 21-7 in the third and 18-9 in the last stanza to win easily.

"We are not where we want to be. We need commitment from all players so that we can all play at one level." said bankers coach David Maina.

"We will need to improve on our defense going forward and win all our second-leg games to move to the top."

Joyce Adongo led the Hawks' scoring tally with 14 points and Melissa Akinyi added 10. Roxanne Netechu registered a team-high of 14 points on the Eldoret side.

Eldonets tactician, James Ndungu noted, "We have had a poor weekend because we have not trained as a team for about two months. We missed our experienced players due to commitments and I am only using new players. If we train together, we will be fine."

Hawks also blanked University of Nairobi 'Dynamites" 50-32 on Saturday with Cynthia Mawero hitting 11 points.

At the Makande Welfare hall in Mombasa, women champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)  humiliated Kenyatta University "Oryx" 93-20.

"It has been a good first leg for us and we want to keep the tempo and focus," offered KPA coach Anthony Ojukwu.

In the men's match up, the visiting KU teams suffered another loss as "Pirates" went down 72-61 at the hands of KPA.

At the Manyatta Arab courts in Kisumu, Africa Nazarene University (ANU) men's team beat Lakeside 53-46. The women's side 'The panthers' suffered a setback going down 70-69 to Lady Bucks. 

"The ladies team played poorly. We missed a lot of chances that we should have scored. Defensively, we were poor," ANU coach Mike Oluoch observed.
