Thunder coach Sadat Gaya wants to keep his team focused on a strong finish ahead of the Kenya National Basketball League play offs.

He said the most important thing is to get the momentum going and build on that ahead of the post-season games.

“We just need to win as much as possible and finish with a winning record as we head to the playoffs. We want a top four finish, but it’s not our main priority,” said Gaya. “We made the top four last year only to lose in the first round.”

He said the long layoffs were evident in how they executed on both ends of the floor in their league game against Umoja.

Thunder thumped Umoja 66-37 after taking a 33-13 half time lead. Morans’ captain Griffin Ligare led with game high 21 points while Tony Mwenda and Jack Agunda added 10 each.

Umoja, who struggled in the first two quarters, managed 24 points in the last half and had Tony Okoi sinking 10 points.

The self-supporting Umoja are ninth on the log with 15 points with just three wins in 12 games.

The win pushed Thunder to the second behind leaders Kenya Ports Authority even though both teams have 21 points.

“We still have to work on our execution on both ends of the floor,” noted Gaya. “I am building a team where everyone will be crucial to our course. I want to have everyone involved and this will bring results.”
