Kenya Ports Authority will host national champions Ulinzi Warriors in the belated men’s play-off finals in Mombasa on April 1.

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) fixtures secretary Joseph Amoko said Game Two will also be played at the Makande Welfare Hall a day later.

“It is not possible to start the finals this weekend,” said Amoko. “We need to give the teams time to prepare. We will have the first two games in Mombasa.”

He said that Games Three, Four and Five — if need be — will be played at the Nyayo Stadium gymnasium from April 16, 17 and 18.

“Ulinzi will be engaged in their sporting activities and as a result, I’ve programmed the other games to start after two weeks.”

Amoko said the dates for the new season will be determined at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) slated for later in April.

The men’s finals were delayed following an appeal lodged by Equity Bank during Game Five against KPA in Mombasa.

The match was halted after the bankers walked out with 59 seconds to play citing security concerns. KPA were leading 66-54.

But the League and Competitions Committee decided the contentious tie be replayed in Mombasa, behind closed bars.

KPA also lodged an appeal and KBF named a seven team Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee headed by veteran tactician George Namake to decide the case.

The committee met and after their deliberations, faulted Equity Bank and gave the game to KPA.

A letter dated March 21 and addressed to the two team managers by the KBF secretary Ambrose Kisoi said in part: “Following the deliberations of the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee, the Federation hereby informs you that the verdict is out and KPA has been declared the winner of the game.”

Reigning champions Ulinzi Warriors made it to the finals after sinking Strathmore University in the other semi-final play-offs.

Already, four KBF league titles have been decided, in the women’s Premier League and the three Lower Division tiers.

KPA reclaimed the women title while Zetech University Titans lifted the men’s Division One crown.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) and Eldonets won men’s Division Two and women’s Division One titles respectively.
