County swimming chairmen have blamed the Sports Registrar for the slow pace of registering counties as they gear up for the Kenya Swimming Federations elections in June.

In a  letter signed by seven counties, the chairmen accused Sports Registrar Rose Wasike over allegations of a selective registration process

Nairobi County Swimming Association chairman, Teddy Wamuyu, said the current registration status indicates that only Nairobi and Mombasa county associations are fully registered.

Kajiado, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Machakos and Laikipia counties are yet to be registered despite submitting their forms but are yet to be registered.

Wamuyu added: “We take cognizance of the fact that Kajiado County submitted their forms on July 19,  2021, while Kiambu did it on February 18, 2020. Laikipia, Uasin Gishu and Machakos also submitted forms in 2022 and are yet to be registered. Ironically, Mombasa,  who submitted their forms late ( February 22) have already been registered."

He noted: “This seems to indicate a selective registration process that does not augur well with good governance procedures that federations are encouraged to adhere to."

He observed: “In addition, the Kenya Aquatics Stabilization Committee is in the process of organising elections for the new swimming federation and county associations will be expected to participate. There is a need to have a transparent and fair election."

"We are, therefore, asking the counties who have submitted their forms for verification to be registered with immediate effect or information be provided to explain why they can't be registered."

Wamuyu spoke on behalf of six other counties including Kajiado, Kisumu, Laikipia, Uasin Gishu,  Kiambu, and Machakos.

Kenya is currently under suspension from World Aquatics for the last two years over their failure to conduct elections.

Stabilization Committee member Francis Mutuku expressed confidence that the elections will be held in due course.

Team Kenya is expected to send swimmers to the forthcoming CANA Zone IV Championships as well as the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Israel in September amongst other international events.
