Kiambu county will send 100 swimmers to the Kampala Invitational Swimming Championship next month in Uganda.

Kenya Swimming Federation Kiambu executive committee member Joseph Ndungu said this is a follow-up to the Kiambu Level 2 Championships held last weekend at Braeburn School.

Ndungu said the talent on display was proof that the programmes the county had put in place were paying dividends.

"The hard work we have put in since last year is beginning to bear fruits," said Ndung'u. "We want to catch up with Nairobi and Mombasa."

Ndungu said the swimmers selected will use the Mount Bloc Swimming Championships, slated for April 1 at the M-Pesa Academy, as part of the preparations for the Ugandan event, where they will be up against Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia as well as the hosts.

"Sunday's event will be good preparation for the Kampala championships since we will compete against swimmers from the rest of the country,” noted Ndungu.

He said he is delighted by the performances the juniors put in over the weekend in the hunt for personal bests.

"The swimmers in the county are improving and with accessibility to facilities, we will see very competitive championships in the months and years to come,” he added.

The Aga Khan Academy won the overall team trophy while Super Marlins Swim Club and Potterhouse School Runda were first and second runners up respectively.

The gala attracted over 200 swimmers from Kiambu and adjacent counties.
