KCB skipper Oketch keen to deliver inter-banks title

KCB captain Eric Oketch believes the bankers have what it takes to clinch the football title at the ongoing 36th edition of the inter-banks games at the ABSA Sports ground, Nairobi.

The event returns following a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. KCB will on Saturday face guest team University of Nairobi (UoN) in their final group stage match at the ABSA Sports Grounds.

Oketch, a former Mathare United skipper, said: “We have incorporated fresh blood into the squad and I am confident that we will break the duck and scoop the title this year having come close in 2019.”

“So far, our preparations and training have been top notch so we expect nothing but success.”

KCB are top of their group with 12 points from the four matches they have played so far.

They beat National Bank of Kenya and Paramount Bank in identical 2-0 scorelines, hit Kenya Bankers Sacco 3-1 and thrashed Bank of Baroda 11-0 to reach the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge will on Saturday morning preside over the official opening of the games at the Kenya School Of Monetary Studies, where 43 banks are represented.

Chess, draught, tug of war, snooker, volleyball, basketball, netball, swimming, tennis, golf, badminton and athletics are among the sports featuring at the games.
