Millicent Ayuwa and Sharon Wafula will shore up Trans-Nzoia's leaky defence after signing up with the team, coach Justine Okiring has said.

Ayuwa was poached from Bungoma Queens while Wafula came from Wadadia. Midfielder Joan Wanjala has been tapped from Bungoma Starlets.

Okiring has prioritised strengthening the defence in the on-going transfer window in a bid to continue their recent good run.  Falcons are fourth in the 12-team Kenya Women's Premier League with 21 points—10 adrift of leaders Vihiga Queens.

The Kitale-based team have conceded 13 goals in 11 matches and are currently placed fourth in the division. Okiring is hopeful that the stats will improve in the second leg set for April 2.

"With Ayuwa and Wafula on board, I believe the defence is sorted though I am still looking to add at least one," the coach noted.

He added: "We were forced to use our forward players as defenders in past matches but with the new acquisitions, we will be a solid team defensively. Merciline Wanjala, on loan from  Eldoret Falcons is set to return to her parent club."

Falcons will also be boosted by the return of four players who will complete their KCSE examinations next month.

They include —Merciline Makungu, Joyce Mbusia, Diana Nyongesa, and Nelly Makungu. Okiring welcomed the selection dilemma he is likely to face but hopes to have balance in the team.

"We want to finish in the top three now that we have the right balance in defence and attack. With almost all players back, we can have a perfect solution and a good run from next month."

"The competition for a starting role will obviously push the players to their limits."
