Vihiga Queens' tactician Boniface Nyamunyamu has lauded his charges for displaying character in their 1-0 win against defending champions Thika Queens  in the Kenya Women's Premier League match at Thika Stadium.

Janet Bundi scored the only goal in the 81st minute with substitute Faith Marende providing the assist as Vihiga exerted revenge on their seasoned rivals who they lost the title to last season.

"It was a tough match but at last we had the last laugh. The aim was always to finish the first leg unbeaten and we have achieved that target. There are still 11 matches to play in the second leg but the two-week break will help us improve on our weak areas," Nyamunyamu said.

Vihiga moved to 31 points from 11 matches and their only slip-up was the 1-1 all draw against Gaspo. The Legacy Makers will use the mid-season transfer window to beef up their attack.

Vihiga dominated possession and created chances but their blunt attack led by Topista Situma, Janet Moraa, and Mercy Oginga could not convert. Consequently, Vihiga had no striker on the bench while experienced forward Tereza Engesha was missing altogether.

"We are not equipped in the forward areas and the priority will be to get a striker on board."

Elsewhere, Nakuru City Queens held Gaspo Women to 1-1 draw. The draw pushed Gaspo to third position on the log with 22 points— nine points adrift of the leaders.

Ulinzi Starlets drubbed Kayole Starlets 4-0  while Trans-Nzoia Falcons hammered Kisumu All Starlets 3-1. Ulinzi moved to second on 22 points because of the superior goal difference. Falcons moved to fourth as Thika dropped to fifth.
