Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation has urged the two major political formations to consider having a woman as a running mate.
The organisation said picking a woman for the seat will be sign of respect and recognition to the women folk.
The call was made by the MYWO national chairperson Rahab Mulu on Tuesday, during its 70th anniversary celebration held at Rift Valley Technical Training College in Eldoret.
She asked the presidential aspirants Raila Odinga and Deputy president William Ruto to pick a woman as their running mate.
Mulu was accompanied by Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua, Chief Administrative Secretary in the ministry of Public works Lina Chebii Kilimo and the former MYWO chairperson Zipporah Kittony.
"Any serious presidential aspirant should make sure that the seat of the second in command is reserved for a woman and we are determined to fight for our rightful place in the next government," Mulu said.
She castigated the women folk for not voting for one of their own tduring the elections, terming it regrettable.
"It is unfortunate that whenever one of us stands up to contest for the top seat she fails due to lack of support from women folks, it's time to change and empower our fellow women," Mulu said.
Karua urged Kenyans not to engage in activities that will divide the country during the election period.
"When I meet the Deputy President William Ruto I always greet him with respect despite being in different political formations and I urge Kenyans to follow suit if we expect to have a united country," Karua said.
